Custom-fit vs universal car mats: how should car mats fit?

Short answer: car mats are not universal, because floor shapes change from model to model and often between generations of the same model. A custom-fit set is cut to your car's floor, covers it edge to edge and locks to the factory clips. A universal set is a generic shape that costs less and works as a quick cover, but it can leave gaps, overlap the sills and move around.

How a car mat should fit
Put the driver mat in and check these points:
- It lies flat. No ripples, no curled corners, no edge riding up the side of the footwell.
- It clears the pedals. Press the brake and accelerator all the way. Nothing should touch the mat.
- It locks in. The clip holes sit over the factory clip points and click down.
- It covers the heel area. That is where your shoes wear the car carpet most.
- It does not slide. Push it forward with your foot. A good fit does not move.
- The rear runner reaches both sides and does not ride up on the seat rails or the centre tunnel.
If the driver mat moves forward, fix it before you drive. A mat that bunches up under the pedals is a safety risk.
Why one shape does not fit all
Even the same model changes its floor between generations. A few examples from our own range:

How to check your model year
Look at your Mulkiya (vehicle registration card). It shows the model year. Pick the set whose year range includes your car. If your car is a facelift, a special edition or an import and you are unsure, send us a photo of your floor on WhatsApp before you order.
When universal is enough
A universal set makes sense if:
- you have a second car or a work car and just want to protect the floor,
- you need a cover while you wait for a custom set,
- your car does not have a custom set available.
Our universal carpet floor mats are a budget black 3-piece set, two front mats and one rear mat, for most cars and SUVs. Before you drive, check that the driver mat lies flat and clears the pedals.
Our custom-fit sets
We cut carpet sets for the Nissan Patrol, Toyota Land Cruiser, Lexus LX570, Toyota FJ Cruiser, ROX 01, Range Rover L405 and Defender 110, and carpet and TPE for the Jetour T2. Each set is cut to the shape of the factory floor. They are not dealer-branded mats.
We do not have custom sets for every car. For example, there is no set for the Land Cruiser 300, Lexus LX600 or Prado 250 on the site. If your car is not listed, message us on WhatsApp with your model and year and we will tell you what fits.
